Welcome to Spirit and Saints Faith Formation Home Page

Wednesday, May 27th: SAS K-9
“Reverse Orientation” for Faith Formation
6:30 – 8:00 PM

Due to the current reality, the end of the year picnic will not be held this year.  With that said, we still need to close out this year by getting all the materials back and while doing this, it allows us an opportunity to say goodbye and congratulate you for making this a wonderful year at SAS.  Therefore we are having a non contact drop off for assignments, tests, books, and to turn in     registrations for next year.  We will meet outside the St. Anthony Center in the east parking lot if it’s nice, otherwise we will be in the gym practicing Social Distancing.   Ginny and Scott will be  available to answer questions, and out of respect for you, we will be wearing our masks and keeping our distance.     See you there!

Latest Letter from Fr. Tom:

May 4 2020
I called to the Lord, and He answered Me, and delivered me from all my fears. Psalm 34:4
May 4, 2020
Dear Friends in Christ:
We continue to live through these extraordinary days with confidence born of faith and gratitude for the ways in which God’s grace has been revealed to us.
In this letter, I share some hopeful signs of gradual return to our customary practices of faith in the ways we cherish. This update shares the latest directives from Bishop Kettler to pastors, dated May 1.
Regarding Masses:
The public celebration of Masses remains suspended until May 18, to coincide with Governor Walz’s extended Stay-At-Home order. All Catholics remain dispensed from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass during this time.
Our livestreamed Masses continue: weekdays at 10:00 a.m., Saturdays at 5:00 p.m., Sundays at 10:00 a.m. Please understand that we have used Holy Spirit exclusively for these Masses simply because of the technology and equipment set up there. We have involved musicians, cantors, and lectors from each of our parishes.
When we are able to return to public celebrations, we will need to observe all health and safety guidelines (social distancing, potential limitation of numbers, Communion only by the Host, etc.). We understand that some will not be comfortable gathering in large groups for a time, so the livestreaming of the Holy Spirit Masses will continue for some time even after we can resume public celebrations, and the dispensation for those who cannot attend remains effective.
Regarding Church Opening for Individual Prayer:
The most significant change in Bishop Kettler’s May 1 letter is the possibility of opening churches again for individual prayer and Eucharistic Adoration. This will answer the longing many have felt to be in a sacred space again.
Similar to our practice in later March, we will offer Adoration of Christ in the Blessed Sacrament in the main body of the church at St. Anthony’s as follows:
Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
To foster the health and safety of all, please observe social distancing of at least six feet, limit the number present at any given time to ten, and limit your time in the church to 60 minutes per day. This will to allow others the opportunity to pray in the church.
As before, this will be silent prayer and Adoration. Please respect the time and prayer of others.
Note that I have designated St. Anthony’s to open for prayer as there is greater room for distancing and the scheduled certain presence of persons for Adoration. Note also that this is simply an opportunity; no one should feel they must come, and those who feeling ill are asked not to come.
Regarding Confessions:
For now, Bishop Kettler continues to require confessions to be by appointment only. As noted previously, we have designated times from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Thursdays and 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Saturdays to set up an appointment. All confessions will be at Holy Spirit. Call your parish office to make arrangements.
Note again that the offices close at noon on Fridays, so all appointments should be made before that time. You do not need to identify yourself to make this appointment and we will not ask for names or contact information, although we ask that you indicate how many people will be going to confession so we can reserve adequate time. In respect for those who have made appointments, we ask that you not simply show up.
While waiting, we ask you to observe the same social distancing as always, and to depart when you are finished. We thank you for your cooperation that will make this go smoothly.
Regarding Other Celebrations:
At this time, Bishop Kettler is allowing weddings, Baptisms, and funeral liturgies as long as there are no more than 10 persons present. Our First Communion and Confirmation celebrations, Baccalaureate Masses, May Crowning, and other observances remain pending.
I am so grateful for your flexibility, patience, and cooperation in these unsettling times. I assure you again of my daily prayers for you, your families, and your needs, and I look forward to the time we can enjoy being together for the Church’s liturgies. Thank you for the many prayers and expressions of support, and for your inspiring examples of faith, hope, and love for one another.
Fr. Tom

DIRECTOR:                                                                                                                                                  Ginny Duschner 252.0535 ext 101, spiritandsaintsffp@gmail.com

YOUTH MINISTRY COORDINATOR:                                                                                                                                Scott Frieler 252-0535 ext 102 youth@spiritandsaints.org

The SAS Faith Formation Program coordinates the Children’s Liturgy of the Word, Youth Activities, Youth Group, as well as the K-9 Faith Formation program, 2nd grade Sacrament preparation, 9th Grade Online Program, 10th grade Confirmation program, and Adult Education Word Search events. Each year nearly 500 children, youth, and adults take part in SAS sponsored events and there are many opportunities for involvement and volunteering. It is only through the help and support of volunteers that all these programs can be offered.

CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD:                                                                                        This is a program for Kindergarten—6th grade children. No registration is required and it is held during the Sunday morning Mass approximately 12 times per year, September–April. The children are escorted out of church prior to the scripture readings and attend their own children’s liturgy in a classroom, which is facilitated by an adult. The children then return to their families at the Preparation of the Gifts. Father simply invites the children to attend at the appropriate time and they can participate at will. Adults or teens are needed to assist the facilitator, and with additional help this program could be offered more often .

K-9 FAITH FORMATION                                                                                                                                                      This a cluster-wide Faith Formation Program serving public school children from the parishes of Holy Spirit, St. Anthony, and St. John Cantius. Classes for K-9 students are held Wednesday evenings during the school year from 6:30 -7:30 pm in the St. Anthony Parish Center. 9th graders are on a home study/web assist program schedule. They come to classes for two hours a month and attend other meetings as scheduled throughout the year. The rest of their assignments and instructions for their home study are given to them online.

CONFIRMATION PREPARATION                                                                                                          The Confirmation program is for public school, Catholic school, and homeschooled students and meets Wednesdays at St. John Cantius at 7:45 p.m. Students and parents are given information and materials in the Spring of their 9th grade year to prepare for Confirmation in Spring of their 10th grade year.

YOUTH GROUP                                                                                                                                                   Youth group provides youth in 7th – 12th grade opportunities to explore their Catholic faith through experiences of prayer and Catechesis. Youth group provides the “Young Church” opportunities to develop faith skills that will help them minister to our parish community now and in the future. Youth group also helps youth to build relationships with adult mentors who model their faith in their everyday lives. The Youth Group is always looking for adults willing to share their gifts with the youth ministry program.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES AT SAS                                                                                              To successfully run these essential programs for the youth of our parish, volunteers are critical. There are many levels of involvement. Please consider helping in whatever way you can.

YOUTH VOLUNTEERS– assist the Youth Coordinator in activities, preparing snacks, and other tasks that come with working with young people. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. Adults are especially needed for the following events: Castaway, Youth Rally, service projects, and recreational activities.

OFFICE HELP FOR FAITH FORMATION– Would you be able to do general office work, call parents when children are absent, or help correct papers?

1-8th GRADE CATECHIST –Be a volunteer Catechist! You will be assigned a group of ten or fewer students and will be provided with a teacher’s manual, lesson plan, supplies, support and training as you help our youth build a foundation of faith. Classes are held twice a month on average.

SUBSTITUTE TEACHER– Would you like to help out, but are unable to commit for the entire school year? If you can be flexible, we are always in need of teachers to fill in when a catechist is unable to teach.

CLASSROOM AIDE–Help the Catechist in the classroom and make a difference by adding your personal touch. As an assistant to the teacher you can give one on one attention to the students that need it.

HALL MONITOR–Bring your walking shoes and walk the hallways to be accessible to the classroom teachers should they need you to escort students or to run small errands. Or, bring a magazine and sit by an exit to ensure that no one exits or enters the building during class time without prior approval.

CONFIRMATION SMALL GROUP LEADER–Volunteer to be a mentor to a small group of students as they prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Lesson plans, guidance and training are all readily available. You will work together as a team with the staff to build relationships and foster youth involvement in the mission of the Catholic Church.

WORDSEARCH EVENTS                                                                                                                                                       The WordSearch events are offered each year for all the members of the three parish cluster and, indeed, all who would like to attend. We attempt to address a wide variety of subjects in hopes of having something of interest for adults and older youth. These WordSearch events were designed with you, the faithful, in mind. Please join us as we explore the many facets of human experience through the eyes of faith. All events will be held at St. Anthony’s Parish Center at 7:00 p.m. on the dates indicated in the bulletin or on the SAS website at http://www.spiritandsaints.wordpress.com. On our website you will be able to find all the events scheduled for any given year. All events are free of charge, and everyone is welcome.
